To support teachers in bringing social justice and equity to all students, and to help new teachers provide their students the opportunity to explore interests and passions while learning the skills and dispositions of life long learners and engaged citizens.

- August, 2007-Present. Associate Professor of Education, Plattsburgh State University. Teach courses in social studies methods, literacy/writing across the curriculum, integrated curriculum. Part of team developing new, integrated teacher education program.
- September, 2000- March, 2006. Core Faculty, Graduate Teacher Certification program, Antioch University Seattle. Taught Curriculum and Instruction, Social Studies Methods, Research Methods, human development, and supervised student teachers. Chaired Graduate Teacher Preparation day program.
- 1997-present. Instructor, Puget Sound Writing Project Summer Open Institute, University of Washington, Seattle, WA.
- 1983-2000 Teacher, Seattle Public Schools. Assignments included elementary and middle school generalist positions, high school social studies and language arts, and middle school math.
- 1995-1998 Consulting Teacher, Seattle Public Schools. Served as a mentor teacher in the S.T.A.R. (Staff Training, Assistance, and Review). This was a full time assignment; we were pulled from our classrooms to work as mentors with first year teachers (and veterans who were struggling).

CONSULTING:
- Workshop developer and leader, Local Access. Local Access is a multi-ethnic consortium of theater artists and educators whose mission is to create opportunities in and through the arts. Projects include preparing and conducting workshops for teachers, parents, and education students in using the arts to teach curriculum content; teaching with multi-ethnic populations; and developing multicultural curricula, 1983-present. Clients have included Seattle Community College District, Seattle University, South Seattle Community College, Washington State Council for Social Studies, Seattle School District, University of Washington School of Social Work, University of Washington Department of Romance Languages. Presented workshops at the Multicultural Institute, Seattle School District, summer 1992, 1993.
- Pasadena United School District. Assisted staff and administration of Washington Middle School in identifying priorities, refocusing, and planning for upcoming change to an International Baccalaureate school.
- Curriculum consultant, Seattle Public Schools. Member of curriculum writing team rewriting world history curriculum with global, multicultural, multi-ethnic emphasis, 1985-88.
- Curriculum consultant and designer for Densho Project. Helped Densho design their educational web site, and created curriculum for Roger Shimomura exhibit. 2004-present. Developed units on Constitutional Issues and on Research designed to meet the requirements for the Washington State Classroom Based Assessments (2007), and a unit dealing with issues connected to immigration (2008).
- Member of the Washington State Panel for Arts Assessment, charged with the task of developing document addressing alternative assessment in the arts. Document (Does It Count?) published in September, 1993.
- Member of Washington State social studies committee charged with the task of revising the state EALRs, developing a model curriculum, and an assessment document, K-12.
- Co-chair of the Seattle Public Schools social studies frameworks committee. The committee was charged with the task of creating a social studies framework, K-12, for the school district. 1988-89.
- Member of elementary textual adoption committee for Seattle School District, 1997-1998 school year.

- I co wrote (with Jan Maher) a series of workbooks for Turman Publishing Company, in Seattle. We wrote six of these workbooks, which were written at a third/fourth grade reading level, but offered content suitable for older students with reading challenges. The first six books of this workbook series on ethnic Americans are currently in print. They are: African Americans, Japanese Americans, Irish Americans, Vietnamese Americans, Native Americans, and Mexican Americans. The rights to the books are now owned by Educational Design Incorporated, in New York.

- Teacher to Teacher Activity Network. Sections of my book Living History in the Classroom were adapted by Prentice Hall into a booklet that is part of a resource packet teachers receive when they purchase US History textbooks. Prentice Hall did this in 1996.

- Seattle School District Curriculum and Instructional Advisory Committee. May 2006-present.
- Current member of Puget Sound Writing Project Advisory Board. 2004-2007 (until I moved to NY).
- Current board member of Global Source, an organization of educators and community activists focused on living and learning in a sustainable manner.
