Faces of Medicine is a documentary series that looks at the lives, careers, and practices of the people that make up the less than 3% of doctors who are Black women.
Leading this effort is Dr. Khama Ennis, who demonstrates the healing properties of cultural understanding in a field where it is especially hard to see oneself.
In sharing these diverse experiences, the filmmakers’ hope is that any young Black or brown woman can find herself in one of the stories, and feel empowered to pursue medicine if it is her passion. Everyone who watches will leave with a better understanding of what their next doctor may have experienced along their journey.
In addition, an exhibit reflecting the work behind Faces of Medicine will open that same evening in the Humanities Gallery at The LAVA Center, with a reception beginning at 6 p.m. followed by the screening at 7 p.m.
Post-screening panel discussion featuring: Khama Ennis, MD, Director and Executive Producer. Audience members will be invited to share their reactions and ask questions.
