SUMMARY:Why I Go to School exhibit reception
DESCRIPTION:The LAVA Center is proud to present our May exhibit\, “Why I 
 Go to School: Expressions through Art by the Children of Twice As Smart.
 ” This is a creative exhibit that showcases the Twice As Smart students
 ’ expressive art\, self-portraits\, and personal essays. Each student\, 
 exhibiting their personal work\, will speak and answer questions about why
  they like school and what they want to learn in school.\n\nTwice As Smart
  is an educational justice program\, founded in 2018 by Gloria Matlock\, a
  music teacher in Musica Franklin and former creative arts teacher in Gree
 nfield schools. She is assisted by a team of educational mentors. Their Gr
 eenfield public school students range from 7 to 14 years\, and this innova
 tive program amplifies their learning in traditional areas such as math\, 
 reading and writing as well as art\, music and self-expression. The youth 
 have grown to cherish learning — they have improved their grades and exp
 ress through art and writing their hopes and dreams for themselves.\n\nTea
 chers and parents are especially welcome with their students and children 
 to view this inspiring exhibit.\n\nThe exhibit grand opening is on Saturda
 y\, May 6\, noon–3 p.m. and closes May 31. Other days the exhibit can be
