SUMMARY:Workshop: Directing and Acting for Writers\, Actors\, and Directors
 : Some Basics
DESCRIPTION:**The workshop is full now. Thanks\, everyone\, for your intere
 st.**\n\nWednesdays\, 4–6pm • February 7\, 14\, 21\, 28\n\nTheater is\
, most often\, a highly collaborative art. It is beneficial for actors to
have experience directing\, for directors to have experience acting\, and
for playwrights to have experience with everything—this makes for a well
-rounded theater artist that can better understand where their co-theater-
makers are coming from.\n\nJoin seasoned theater artist Jan Maher and The
LAVA Center for a four-week workshop for writers\, actors\, and directors
will explore the basics of different aspects of theater artistry. This wor
kshop will\, through practice\, offer you some experience in other roles i
 n theater.\n\nClick here for more details.\n\nThe workshop leader:\nJan Ma
her has been involved in theater work for whoa! A very long time! (Coming
up on 60 years\, or even longer if you count my performance in a Dutch Dan
ce in kindergarten\, longer still if you count my solo improvisation as a
toddler bewailing being left behind when I was deemed “not old enough”
to make a family trip to Chicago. But seriously\, I’ve done a lot of di
fferent sorts of things over these many decades including writing plays\,
directing plays (my own and others’)\, acting in plays (my own and other
s’)\, teaching playwrighting\, teaching acting\, teaching acting for tea
chers\, and assisting my mentor Joseph Chaikin in a master workshop for di
rectors.\n\nMy influences in theater\, aside from Joe\, are The Open Theat
 er\, Peter Brooks\, Vaclav Havel\, Tom Stoppard\, Sophocles\, Arthur Mille
r\, Suzan-Lori Parks\, and Maria Irene Fornes.\n\nI’m looking forward to
working with a small\, dedicated group of theater artists who would like
to learn more in a mutually supportive environment.
