Writers Read is a monthly opportunity for an audience to come and listen to local writers in an intimate environment. Each second Wednesday of the month, three writers read from their work followed by time for the audience to join with the writers for a talkback. These discussions have been eye opening, touching, and inspiring. Audiences have left the venue ready to write.

This series is facilitated by Lindy Whiton, a member of LAVA, and pulls from several different communities of writers throughout the local area. We are extremely lucky to draw from an abundance of talent. The year’s calendar does bring in a few outside writers who agreed to travel. Watch this event for future readers.

On Aug. 14, The LAVA Center and Writers Read are excited to celebrate 2 years of monthly readings. In August 2022, we started Writers Read with Samantha Wood, EJ Worth, and Leo Hwang. Unfortunately, Leo is out of the area for this time, but the other two will be joined by Skyler Lambert, a recent Poet Seat finalist. We will celebrate this successful run of almost 60 readers and launch a third year.

Samantha Wood is an artist and writer living in western Massachusetts. She’s also a sheep farmer, and works in workforce development and higher education. She spent nearly two decades as a news editor for daily newspapers.

Eirnín (EJ) is a 23 year old, nonbinary writer and musician who has been writing since they were very young. Presently, they are majoring at Bard College, Annandale, NY in Classics Studies and Writing. Eirnin read for the first Writers Read and will again read from their short story collection.

Skyler Lambert is a writer and poet from southern West Virginia. His memoir-in-progress investigates two murders and explores the complexities of the human condition through class, addiction, trauma, and environmental harm. Skyler lives in Greenfield with his partner, Australian cattle dog, and two black cats.
