Writers Read is a monthly opportunity for an audience to come and listen to local writers in an intimate environment. Each second Wednesday of the month, three writers read from their work, followed by a discussion facilitated by Lindy Whiton. These discussions have been eye opening, touching, and inspiring. Audiences have left the venue ready to write.
Nicole Young-Martin (she/her) is the producer and host of the award-winning podcast, Black Writers Read, which is the recipient of the 2024 Black Podcasting Award for Best Literary Podcast. Her poetry has been published in Meat for Tea: The Valley Review, the 2022 Connecticut Bards and The Rebel’s Zeitgeist through Black Writers for Peace and Social Justice. Nicole’s award-winning play, get (t)his!, has been produced in Western MA, New York City, and Detroit (her hometown).
Doug Selwyn taught at K-12 public schools from 1985 until 2000 and then at university as a professor of education until he retired in 2017. His published works include All Children Are All Our Children, Following the Threads: Bringing Inquiry Research into the Classroom, and At the Center of All Possibilities: Transforming Education for Our Children’s Future; his monthly column for the Greenfield Recorder features his commentary on educational issues. He has read his fiction and poetry at the Garlic and Arts Festival Word Stage.
Dahlia Riddington is a writer, musician, dancer, and all-around enthusiast of artistic creation. She is originally from Greenfield, MA, and most recently graduated from Smith College, where she studied Creative Writing and Paleoclimatology. Her poetry writing is inspired by the local landscape of Western MA and by the intricacies and intimacies of people.
