Why I Go to School

Expressions through Art by the Children of Twice As Smart

Home » Exhibits » Why I Go to School

a creative exhibit that showcases the Twice As Smart students’ expressive art, self-portraits, and personal essays

reception: Saturday, May 6, noon–3pm

Twice As Smart is an educational justice program, founded in 2018 by Gloria Matlock, a music teacher in Musica Franklin and former creative arts teacher in Greenfield schools. She is assisted by a team of educational mentors. Their Greenfield public school students range from 7 to 14 years, and this innovative program amplifies their learning in traditional areas such as math, reading and writing as well as art, music and self-expression. The youth have grown to cherish learning — they have improved their grades and express through art and writing their hopes and dreams for themselves.

Teachers and parents are especially welcome with their students and children to view this inspiring exhibit.

The exhibit grand opening is on Saturday, May 6, noon–3 p.m. and closes May 31. Other days the exhibit can be seen throughout May are found on the LAVA Center calendar.

“Why I Go to School” is sponsored by Twice As Smart and the Traprock Center for Peace and Justice and supported by the Greenfield Savings Bank.
