The LAVA Center is excited to present “World on Fire,” an installation and exhibit by local artist and agent provocateur, JJ White. Five years ago, in September 2019, environmental activist Greta Thunberg delivered her famous and damning words at the United Nations Climate Action Summit: “How dare you!”
Taking Thunberg’s words as their inspiration, White has created a series of 2- and 3- dimensional installations that will be on the walls of The LAVA Center’s Humanities Gallery from October through December this year. Designed to provoke and force us to think about environmental issues and the climate crisis, White’s work is not to be missed.
The exhibition will include community participation using multimedia tools that will enable people to add their voices to the exhibit.
JJ White is a Greenfield-based artist-activist focused on concept-driven art through the mediums of photography, poetry, video, collage and repurposed items. Presently, their favored medium is landscape art/sculpture. Centered in their work are issues of politics, gender, identity and erotica.
A mostly self-taught artist, White got their start writing and performing spoken word poetry as a means of self-expression and exploration and general outrage at world events. Their eclectic art can be seen at www.artdeviation.com.
Prior to adventuring in the world of art, White spent 30 years providing fundraising services for progressive nonprofit organizations and political candidates in the US and Canada.
