March 1, 2022 //  by LAVA

“The LAVA Center is collecting submissions for ‘Words on Words,’ a community art show that will be on display in June. Submissions are due April 30.

“‘Words on Words’ will present works of art that combine words and visual elements, a LAVA Center press release explains. Writers and visual artists are invited to submit work that in some way responds to language and/or writing. Examples can include poetry, prose or quotes, displayed visually; and visual art that incorporates words.

“Submissions should be emailed to project coordinator Michael Travisano at matravisano@hotmail.com. Submissions must be sent in JPEG or PDF format; be two-dimensional (wall-mountable) and family-friendly; include a short artist’s statement about the work and how it relates to the theme; and include the dimensions of the work. According to the release, if works use words that are not the artist’s, they must be attributed.

“Artists will be notified by May 14 if their work is accepted into the show, the release states. If accepted, there will be a $5 to $10 sliding scale fee per artist to cover gallery fees, and reception and promotional materials.

“Artists will be responsible for the physical presentation of their work. According to the release, work will need to be brought to The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. the week of May 16. There will be a June 4 reception and the show will run until the end of June.”
