LAVA Center to host Constitution reading, discussion
Inspired by the Greenfield Public Library’s announcement that it will be distributing Pocket Constitutions for Constitution Day, The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. has decided to hold a participatory reading of the Constitution on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
All are welcome to bring their copy and help read the document aloud or listen as others read. There will be copies on hand to share for those who don’t have one.
Following the reading, there will be a discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring questions, comments and concerns. Capping the afternoon’s activities is a chance to record thoughts about the country’s foundational document at a story booth.
The reading will begin at 12:30 p.m. and is expected to take up to an hour, followed by discussion and story booth recording. There is no charge to participate, though donations are welcome.
LAVA Center seeks exhibit submissions
The LAVA Center is seeking submissions for its fourth annual Community Art Show.
This year’s exhibit theme is “Reclamation,” encouraging use of reclaimed materials, reclaimed words or emotions, etc. Artwork needs to be able to hang on the wall, so sculptures will not be accepted.
To submit, email art@thelavacenter.org with the title of your piece, your full name and an image (JPEG or PNG file formats are acceptable) of the piece. The due date for submissions is Friday, Oct. 13.
Pieces will be chosen and artists notified by Oct. 19. The exhibit will be on display at The LAVA Center in November and December, with an opening reception Saturday, Nov. 4, from noon to 3 p.m.
