LAVA Center to host online performance by hip-hop storyteller

You are here: Home / Press / LAVA Center to host online performance by hip-hop storyteller

January 20, 2022 //  by LAVA

The LAVA Center will host an online performance by Marlon Carey, hip-hop storyteller, on Monday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. on Zoom.

Blending the elements of theater, hip-hop, poetry and storytelling, Carey aka Inphynit will perform a live set of new and classic material that delves into his Jamaican immigrant background, growing up in a single-parent home in Brooklyn, N.Y., to being a father of three and balancing his art with his family life during the last two years of the pandemic.

Carey has taught poetry and creative writing workshops in schools for several years in the New England area and was named “Best Hip Hop Poet” by the Cambridge Poetry Awards two years in a row, designated as Boston Cantab Lounge’s “Grand Slam Champion” and the Lizard Lounge Boston’s “King.” Based in Providence, R.I., he wrote, directed and acted in “From A Distance,” The LAVA Center’s first online short play festival, in June 2020.
