‘Theater of Ideas’ to discuss single-payer health care
As part of The LAVA Center’s “Theater of Ideas” conversation series, the Friday, July 18 program will focus on single-payer health care. The event starts at 6 p.m. at The LAVA Center, 324 Main St.
MassCare Co-Chair Dave Cohen, MassCare board member Judy Atkins and Greenfield Recorder columnist Doug Selwyn will offer an information session on single-payer health care and the ways it can address financial and health care crises. MassCare is the organization leading the effort to pass single-payer health care in Massachusetts.
If passed, a pair of bills submitted in the Legislature, H.1405 and S.860, would bring single-payer health care to Massachusetts. The July 18 program looks to clarify what the legislation would mean for the municipalities and residents of Massachusetts and provide information on how such a system would work, the expected savings that would be gained from the system, how the single-payer model would affect health care coverage and more.
Queer open mic night starts Aug. 1
The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. is starting a new monthly queer open mic night, called Smack Dab, on the first Friday of each month starting Aug. 1. Sign-up is at 6:30 p.m. and performances start at 7 p.m.
